ICL7660CPA : Voltage Inverter, +5 to +/-5V, Input Voltage 1.5-10V, or Voltage Doubler to 18.6V
On offer are 10 new (old stock) pieces of the classic Intersil brand Voltage Converter, type ICL7660CPA. This is a very handy chip for efficiently (98%) generating bias voltages for FETs and negative power rails for Op Amps from a single supply, such as in battery powered equipment.
* Simple to use - requires only a couple of external capacitors.
* Versatile - can be paralleled for more power, or cascaded for higher voltages.
* Application circuits abound on the Internet.
* As with most DIP packages, increasingly hard to source.
My most common use for these parts is for conveniently generating the negative bias supply in GaAsFET circuits. A typical example is the GaAsFET preamp bias board, by Paul Marsh, M0EYT. Other examples are

The ICL7660A performs supply voltage conversions from positive to negative for an input range of +1.5V to +12.0V resulting in complementary output voltages of -1.5V to -12.0V. Only 2 noncritical external capacitors are needed for the charge pump and charge reservoir functions. The ICL7660A can also be connected to function as a voltage doubler and will generate output voltages up to +18.6V with a +10V input.
