Lead-free soldering has introduced problems. The high tin content of the solder causes a dramatic shortening of the life of soldering iron tips: the tin in the wire actually attacks the copper core of the tip. The tendency is to use the wet sponge more frequently to clean the tip, but this can actually cause the tip to wear faster due to thermal shock.
The product is lead-free and is supplied in a (larger than most!) 50g tin with an adhesive pad on the base for easy mounting on your soldering iron power supply or nearby bench-top.
