Here it is, the Cadillac of ALL Variacs. This is a B & K Model 1655. I used to own a large Electronic Service Center and used many different Variacs in my day. The B&K 1655 is by far the Best and most versatile Variable AC Power Supply out there. It is such a good design that when B&K changed the model to the 1655A, they only changed the case, they left all the inner workings alone. These give many years of uninterrupted, dependable service. The 1655A still sells for over $500.00.
The 1655 not only can be used as an ISOLATED Variable AC source, it also tests for chassis leakage, a MUST for servicing HOT CHASSIS Electronic Equipment. The 1655 also has a variable power supply built in for a Soldering Iron. Leave it on all day at minimum setting. The iron stays hot, but not hot enough to cause oxidation on your tip. When you are ready to use the iron, simply dial up the temperature and your iron is hot within about 1 minute.. I always keep a second heavy pencil iron on standby just in case I need to have a larger tipped iron to do some work. Then I do not have to change tips on my soldering station, just grab a different iron.
The 1655 also has a built in Isolation Transformer to isolate the load from the line. I could keep talking, but I think that I have covered the important points.
The unit comes as pictured, with the Leakage Probe and line cord. It is in very good cosmetic condition with very few nicks & scratches from normal use. Meter face is Perfect! Seems to have had very little use. Is fully tested and calibrated. If I didn't already have 2 of these, I would keep it for myself!! If you can find these for under $250.00, they really are a great bargain and a necessary addition to ANY workbench.
