It's Monday morning and network technicians are faced with the usual problems. Who are the top talkers causing congestion? Why can't a user access the server? Who is generating excessive errors? How many ports are up and running on the switch? Solving these problems can be a real challenge, especially in today's switched, fast Ethernet and TCP/IP environments.
Your frontline technicians need a test tool that can see beyond switches to quickly locate and resolve network problems. They need the Fluke Networks OneTouch Series II Network Assistant.
OneTouch gives your response staff the power to solve network problems faster. Available in two models, OneTouch provides an in-depth look into your network, making it easy to:
* Confirm connectivity to servers, switches or routers
* Test NIC cards, hubs or even cables
* Measure 10 and 100 Mbps Ethernet utilization, collisions or errors
In addition, troubleshooters can deploy the OneTouch at remote locations and handle problems via their web browsers.
Improved network visibility. Decreased network maintenance costs. Faster frontline troubleshooting. You get it all with the OneTouch Series II Network Assistant.
Do you currently own a OneTouch Series I? Fluke Networks makes it easy for you to convert your existing unit into one of the OneTouch Series II models.

The OneTouch Series II uses Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) queries to obtain information about discovered switches. The OneTouch reports switch information such as name, description, and uptime. In addition, the OneTouch reports a list of switch interfaces, interface type and whether each switch interface is up or down.
Station to Switch Port Mapping
The station to switch port-mapping features allow a technician to discover where a device is attached to on a switch. A technician chooses a discovered station from the station list and sees which switch port that station is attached to. The switch name, description, address and port number are displayed. This feature is also available under the Connectivity Tests as Station Locator. A technician types in either a MAC address or an IP address and the OneTouch Series II tester displays the switch port to which that particular device is attached.
Web Monitoring and Control Via a Web Browser
The OneTouch Series II tests network components such as NIC cards and hub ports. When the OneTouch Autotest is run, the OneTouch tests the hub port and reports link pulse receive voltage level, signal polarity, receive signal pair, capability of the hub port (10 or 100) and duplex status (half or full). The OneTouch also makes sure that a packet can be transmitted past the hub port. When the OneTouch tests a NIC card, it reports the link pulse receive voltage level and MAC and network addresses of the NIC card.
The OneTouch Series II features an internal wiremap termination so a troubleshooter can quickly run a wiremap test on a suspect patch cable. The OneTouch also provides a Cable Autotest that detects the determination and runs an appropriate set of cable tests. The OneTouch Series II measures cable length on open cable and can identify split pairs, opens, and shorts. By using the optional Fiber Test Kit, a technician can also measure power and loss on a fiber cable.
One hundred network users need to be moved over the weekend. Two technicians are assigned to confirm that for each day, the move is done correctly. Using their OneTouch Series II Network Assistants, they confirm each PC configuration using the ConfigMaster feature. They run an Autotest to check the cable, hub, and general connectivity. Finally, they run a Key Device Ping to check connectivity to the local segment router, switches and printers. Monday morning arrives and all users are up without any complications.
A touch of the ConfigMaster icon and the OneTouch Series II Pro users get critical information to properly configure a device or workstation. Network information includes DNS server name, IP address range, subnet mask, default gateway, POP3 server, DNS, WINS server, frame type, and NetBIOS name. This handy feature eliminates the trial-and-error method of workstation configuration.
Just one touch of the AutoTest icon displays the connectivity status of desktop stations, TCP/IP devices, servers, and even devices past switches. For example, pressing the NetWare server icon displays the nearest server for each of the four Ethernet frame types (IEEE 802.2 and 802.3, Ethernet II, and SNAP). For all discovered NetBIOS servers, the following are displayed: name, domain, server type, protocols and MAC addresses. Pressing the station list icon provides a list of discovered stations that can be sorted by device type, utilization, protocol or name. Pressing the TCP/IP icon takes the user to the TCP/IP discovery screen.
The OneTouch Series II allows a user to build a custom list of devices that the OneTouch will ping. For example, a user could build a list of key devices on a segment that a technician could ping after each move, add, or change. The Series II allows the user to build up to five custom lists.
Now you can generate network performance reports using a OneTouch Series II Network Assistant and the PC-based OneTouch Series II Reporter Software Package.
This intuitive report package collects data from the OneTouch unit running on your local segment and then presents the information in professionally formatted documents.
With a click of your mouse, you can create reports or you can set time parameters to trend your network, from 20 minutes to 24 hours.
Generate the following reports with the OneTouch Series II Reporter Software:
Need more real time monitoring and documentation capabilities for your switched Ethernet network? Network Inspector OneTouch Edition combines the capabilities of the OneTouch Reporter package with Network Inspector's unlimited-node, single site license, 1 console discovery and Switch Inspector option.
Determining an acceptable collision or utilization level is not always obvious from the network statistics, particularly for less experienced troubleshooters.
The OneTouch Series II Network Advice feature interprets critical Ethernet parameters - such as collisions, errors, and broadcasts - in the context of traffic levels. With a single touch of the Network Advice icon, users are empowered to interpret results that in the past required advanced expertise. Network Health also displays top protocols, top senders, and discovered stations.
Internetwork Throughput Option
Test IP Performance Across Enterprise Backbones, WANs and VPNs
The Internetwork Throughput Option (ITO) for the OneTouch Series II Network Assistant enables IP Performance testing during the installation and maintenance of Enterprise backbones, WANs, and VPNs.
With the OneTouch Series II ITO, you can:
* Measure IP throughput across a campus backbone
* Test IP Performance across a WAN and compare to an SLA
* Baseline congestion when installing a VPN
The IP Performance Test requires a OneTouch Series II Network Assistant to be configured with an IP address at each end of the link under test. The link may be wireless, routed, transparent or asymmetric (xDSL or cable modems) as long as an Ethernet connection is available at both ends.
Unlike PC or workstation-based tools that rely on specific operating systems, network adapter cards, software drivers or configurations, the OneTouch Series II Network Assistant Internetwork Throughput Option provides independent, repeatable results.
The Internetwork Throughput Option enables a OneTouch Series II Network Assistant to perform valuable single-ended testing including traffic generation on a local segment and sending IP and IP Ping traffic to remote IP devices.
* Simulation of additional users on a segment by generating Ethernet traffic
* Simulation of error conditions by generating short frames or jabbers
* Identification of bottlenecks by successively pinging devices along a suspect path
The OneTouch transmits Ethernet level traffic by transmitting unicast or broadcast packets. It enables you to transmit IP traffic to a far-end IP device. It will also allow you to transmit ICMP Echo Request packet or IP Ping traffic to a far-end IP device.
