High-power, low-inertia DC motors drive the axis slides and working head via
ball-screw spindles and pre-clamped spindle nuts. Precise bearing governors
allow rapid and sensitive stabilisation of eroding gaps ranging from large to very small.
In combination with the rigid structure, this drive system is the foundation
for outstanding eroding results in the roughing-down and fine-finishing area (erosion polishing).
Direct-measuring linear measuring bars prevent pitch and transmission errors,
thus ensuring high positional accuracy. Resolution from 0.001 mm to 0.0001mm
The requirement for good accessibility and automation is fulfilled to a
considerable degree by the elevating holder, which can be positioned to allow

Operational and programming data is entered via a 14" VGA-TFT touch monitor
with changeable operating elements and help-text functions. Output is
displayed on a second 14" VGA-TFT monitor. Parallel programming is possible
during eroding. All information and data required for eroding is stored in
the memory and can be retrieved on screen and allocated to each programming step.
Programing is performed in DIN with G-function for axis selection, M and S
functions for machine commands, T functions for tool exchangers, and H functions for technology retrievals.
Pre-set cycles for planetary selections are integrated in the control unit.
These include circle, taper, ball, star, corner and surface, and are rotatable
in space by 90 degrees in all three axes. A co-ordinate transformation
facility allowing any desired spatial rotation in steps of 0.1 degrees over a
range of 360 degrees is available as an option.
The control unit allows "bore erosion" in all four axes individually or
linearly, two or three dimensionally, boring with superimposed planetary
automated sparking, and reverse travel limitation in all axes.
Automatic removal is programmable. Removal advance may be set to operate
logarithmically, or linearly in the planetary to the centre, or over a range of 45 degrees.
The control unit architecture incorporates real-time cycles of 1mS for the
input, processing and output or eroding processes and path positions. By
