Microscope biological 1000X mag halogen lamp L1000A
This is a brand new, high quality, 1000x mag. biological upright microscope at an excellent price. This microscope is made by GX Microscopes and is a current model (see their shop gxoptical.com) It has everything you would expect to find on a microscope costing over many times more. This microscope would suit hobbyists, students and researchers to almost any level. It is simple to use, advanced and robustly constructed with a full 1 year manufacturer's warranty.
The Head of the microscope is a monocular type with an ergonomic inclined and rotatable head fitted with an eyepiece tube which reaches comfortably towards the observer. The microscope is supplied with a 10X Widefield eyepiece, higher power eyepieces are available from the manaufacturer if required.
The stand and head of the microscope have a tough stain resistant paint finish. Mounted on the stand is the turret of objectives, mechanical stage, Abbe condenser and focus mechanism. The optical performance of this microscope is delivered by 3 main components, the flat field corrected widefield eyepieces, a set of 4 achromatically corrected objectives and the Abbe Condenser.
The objectives are the corrected type ACHROMATS, all glass construction each mounted in a precision steel barrel. There are 4 objectives: 4X (total mag 40X), 10X (total mag 100X), 40X (total mag 400X), 100X (Total Mag 1000X). The 40X and 100X objectives have a special springloaded mechanism built into the tip of the objective so they retract into the objective barrel should they accidentally make contact with the specimen under observation. The optics are also countersunk behind a steel surround to provide further protection. The 100X objective is an oil immersion objective which is specially designed to work in oil rather than air as the refractive index of the oil permits greater resolving power. The 10X, 40X and 100X objectives are designed to work with glass coverslips with a standard thickness of 0.17mm and the correction for the refractive properties of a piece of glass of this thickness has already been corrected for in the advanced optical design (4X objectives are never coverglass corrected). The numerical aperture of an objective determines its resolving power, the values for these objectives match the highest standards: 4X-NA0.10, 10X-NA0.25, 40X-NA0.65, 100X-NA1.25. Slides and coverslips can be obtaned at very reasonable prices from the manufacturer's website above.
The mechanical stage fitted to this microscope is essential for use for scanning at low magnifications and finding fine structures at high magnifications. It includes a carefully designed springloaded slide holder and controls ergonomically positioned to the side of the stage near the focus mechanism with coaxial knobs for manipulating X and Y movement with a single hand both at high speed for low mag use and very finely for high mags. The stage is coated in a highly resistant ultra-smooth black finish for a long life and has vernier scales for repositioning of specimens.
The stage moves up and down under the objectives by means of the coarse and fine focus knobs positioned on the side of the microscope stand.
Under the stage is the primary light focussing device called an Abbe condenser with a numerical aperture of 1.25 and an adjustable diaphragm which can be set for each objective to ensure maximised resolving power. The Abbe condenser is mounted on its own rack and pinion with an adjustment knob, this is a feature you would normally only find on an advanced research microscope.
Beneath the Abbe condenser is a colllector lens which focusses the light onto the underside of the condenser. The Collector lens sits directly above the 15W halogen lamp.
The stand holds all the electronics and has an easily accessible fuse at the rear. The microscope is supplied with a plug, a full manual, dust cover.
The microscope is packed into a polysyrene mould which is inside a cardboard box.
Optional extras available from the manufacturer (gxoptical.com) include 16X eyepieces to increase total magnification range to 1600X, eyepieces with reticle scales in them, microscope cameras, adapter for cameras, imaging software and spares.
