I recently ran in to a problem as I was restoring a couple Vintage Delta DP 220 14" Drill Presses, and found the spindle bearing were worn, and had been discontinued. I was able to duplicate a working bearing assembly, by turning a couple of bushings to press inside the proper diameter bearing. I then had to make a special tool to hold the somewhat " dainty" bushing, to install on my milling machine to cut the necessary slots. It turned out to be a tedious and time consuming process, but while I was doing it, and to recover the cost of some special tooling, I thought I would offer up a few sets to others that have ran into the same problem.
You will notice a visible difference between the original assembly and my new assembly, but the bearing width difference was made up in the length of the bushing so the final out come provides the same function as the original bearings. I have field tested these for fit and finish on my own DP 220 Delta 14" drill press. The photos show both the new replacement bearings, and also the original Delta Bearing. As I explained there is a difference in looks, but the distance from the base or seat of the bearing to the top of the extended collar with the notches, are both the same, and will function as the original bearings. I also Show the new bearings mounted in my quill, and on the spindle with the notches intact, just above the chuck. The measurements have been precisely calculated. More than likely, if one of your spindle bearings is in need of replacing, the other bearing probably needs to be replaced also. Therefore...I am offering up a pair of these special bearings.
