What's so special about a He-Ne like this? Why do they cost more than laser diodes that are smaller? COLLIMATION. The beam of a laser diode typically disperses or spreads out much closer to the laser. A He-Ne of this design (lab grade) exhibits an extraordinarily tight beam, and in TEMoo Mode, (Continous, without "doughnutholing" and other anomalies inherent to laser diodes. So a He-Ne can be the laser to get if you need an exceptionally pure, tight, collimated single dot output, that stays tight, for much farther.
