When you use these blocks at the bottom of your casing on both sides of your door there is no mitering necessary. This makes for a much more elegant entry with less work.
Proper sizing: WIDTH of this block is generally 1/4" wider than your casing, this will give you about 1/the inch revel on either side of casing. HEIGHT of the block generally is 3/4" to 2"s higher than your base trim. You can experiment with any combinations by cutting a sample out of cardboard and setting it in place and cutting down to the size of your liking. If you are unsure you can by a larger size and always cut them down.
