Topcon has developed the ultimate one person survey system. The Auto-tracking" total station AP-L1A, used in conjunction with radio communication, a hand held data collector with the TDS Survey Pro Robotic software produces a unique surveying system that enables all field surveying tasks to be carried out by one Surveyor working on his own being in total control from the rod / prism pole.
Driven by servo motors the AP-L1A has the ability to automatically search and lock on to the prism even when moved erratically or at high speeds.
The APL-1A also proves to be a great two person system, sometimes needed for burning through trees and hard to see spots. It allows the Instrument person to be behind the Gun with the auto aim feature following the rod person around and pressing the shot button on the DC to collect the desired point and add the determined code.
The Gun also has a feature where the rod is fix mounted on say an ATV or a Car roof then the vehicle drives the field and the APL-1A will follow the object and record the shots when the button is pushed or after a pre-chosen time frequency has occurred.
The TDS Survey Pro Software has all the premiere functions of Survey solving functions that any day to day situations might require
you to compute missing lines or corner offsets, see the online manuals for the full features and file type extensions.

We use Windows active sync to transfer the data from the Data Collectors to the PC. Then we use a generic topcon conversion program to convert .Job, .Cr5 to Ascii or what ever the cad program requires. You might need to research what file transfer products work best with your PC and Cad program.
