A must for knowing when to change your oil in that generator.
Forget when to change oil and you could be looking at a cost of 30 to 40 times what this meter will cost.. Especially when todays small 5000 watt generators do not run with an oil filter.
Easy to install, just mount and wire to the 2 terminals of the back of the 120 volt outlet (DO NOT CONNECT TO THE GREEN WIRE on the outlet as this is a safety ground) and you are done. Mounting holes are 1 3/4 inches on center and back wired for easy installation.
What I did with my own hour meter was to make up a very short extension with a plug on one end and the hour meter on the other end and when the generator is running I just plug it into an unused 110 volt outlet on the generator (or wall outlet). It saved me the trouble of cutting a hole in the generator panel. But be sure and cover the electrical connection at the rear of the meter with a lot of electrical tape or you could be seriously injured.
I used an extension cord and just cut off the female end of the cord.
Mounting cutout dimensions for the electrical panel are 1" high by 1.5" wide and 2.5" deep. Lugs are 1/4" male push on or solder type lugs, (female push clips included).
