Ditch witch sx-400 vibratory plow & heavy duty trailer
When Purchased in 2004 the engine was completely rebuilt and repainted by Ditch Witch of North Carolina, in Garner, North Carolina. The rebuild included a complete stripping down and repainting, new hydraulics and pumps, and a new out of the crate 41 hp Lister Petter LPW4 diesel engine. I have put all 779.3 hours on this machine myself, and it has never failed me in getting a job done. The battery was replaced in 2009. This machine is awesome going through solid baked, clay, and rock infested soils. It is the most powerful walk behind combination that Ditch Witch ever made. It was so powerful that they used to shake themselves apart, but this unit has been retrofit with SX-410 vibration dampeners, seals, and shaker bushings making it a very smooth operator. The drill will impress by traveling over 40 feet under driveways and retainer walls like a straw going into a milkshake, effortlessly up to 3 o.d. (that s the largest bit I have ever had on it). This is the only machine of its type that I have ever used or seen that truly impressed me.
The Lister Petter Company is based out of England, and is known for their high quality, durable industrial diesel engines throughout the world. The engines built by Lister Petter meet or exceed world class quality control standards of the EU 2000 international specification and tolerance requirements. The Lister Petter LPW4 is a four cylinder, liquid cooled, direct injection engine that because of its direct injection system, keeps it operating through heavy loads and intimate weather. This engine features automatic excess fuel on engine startup control, and automatic bleed fuel from line feature after engine fuel has run out, uncommon in smaller industrial diesel engines. The engine also features a mechanical governor that doesn t allow the engine rpm over 2650 which could damage the engine if it were not in place. The engine utilizes a 12 volt starting system with heavy duty solenoid, and Ford Mo Co alternator which was recently replaced at 214 hours. This engine has been kept exceptionally clean, and it is full of fresh oil and filters ready for the Spring until I found out my bad news. All hydraulics and filters (air too) are fresh as well.

The trailer is a heavy duty single axle Ditch Witch tilt bed model 154A (see photo of Serial Plate) The tilt is released by a single "L" pin attached to the front frame or tongue of the trailer and easily slides in and locks into place for loading and unloading equipment. The serial number looks like "00010285531" and the date of manufacture is "10/2/82". I bought it from Ditch Witch North Carolina after having the wheel bearings replaced and packed. The wheel bearings have been repacked in 2008, and the tires were replaced then also after one got cut. The new tires are "AKURET ST, COMMERCIAL TRAILER" "LOAD RANGE D" 225 75 R15 10 PLY. The trailer GVWR is 4000/5000 and the MAX TONGUE RATING is 920lb. The trailer is equipped with a built in chain binder w/hook and stowing ring on the front of the trailer. The trailer also has (4) opposing welded (to tilt bed frame) tie down rings. It has a built in (welded) drill rod caddy which has a center guide (see photos) to securely hold (4) 10' drill rods (although (5) come with it (I bungee cord them all together to prevent rattling. The trailer is equipped with a custom built, curb side pipe, large roll goods "hooks" (see photos) and roll wire caddy. The roll wire caddy had three "bars" to hold 500' wire rolls, but it looks like two of the rods have been taken, leaving only one left. Each rod was designed to hold (4) 500' rolls of wire, and the rods can easily be replaced if you need them with some 5/8" - 3/4" metal rod stock, and holes drilled to "pin them in" at each end. At the top of the "mast" is a large "L" iron that can be used to transport up to (12) 10' 1" pipes which can be secured up and out of the way, again with bungee cords wrapped around them. This trailer is very heavy duty as we have even hauled a small car on it (Ford Probe) and it barely fit on, but traveled well over a 40 mile trip.The photos will have to tell the rest other than the ligh fixtures are all there, just some front wiring damage needs to be repaired where someone allowed the pigtail to drag on the road (GRRRRR). Other than that, this trailer is ready to travel across the country if necessary.
In addition to the above there are two drill rod adapters. One "old style to new style" drill rod adapter, and one "new style to old style" drill rod adapter so that the drill rod sections and bits can be attached to one another.
