Antique Tool - MICROMETER - Lufkin Rule Co - 2" - Used
Tools, my how tools have evolved since the cave man. Well, if you are a tool collector then what we have here might be of interest to you as it is truly a machinist collectible. This is an Antique Tool - it is called a MICROMETER.
What is a Micrometer I asked? My encyclopedic dictionary says: A device for measuring minute distances, especially an instrument (micrometer gauge) based on the rotation of a finely threaded screw. - A unit of length equal to one-millionth of a meter. - Another source said the MICROMETER had its beginnings in the 1870s and Brown & Sharpe was major in its development.
I will describe this Antique Tool - MICROMETER as much and/or best as I can:
* This Antique Tool - MICROMETER is called a MICROMETER HEAD.
* On this Antique Tool - MICROMETER HEAD I can not find any US Patent number or Patent date.
* This Antique Tool - MICROMETER HEAD is quite small, but solid. It measures approximately:
* 2" - from point to top
* The Manufacturer for this Antique Tool - MICROMETER HEAD is: Lufkin Rule Co - Saginaw, Mich.
* Going around this Antique Tool - MICROMETER HEAD it reads: The Lufkin Rule Co - Saginaw, Mich
* The numbers going around the edge of this Antique Tool - MICROMETER HEAD go: 0-5-10-15-20 - and then, very tiny, are also the inbetween numbers.
* When screwed open, the numbers on inside, going up, read: 0-1-2-3-4-5
* This is a nice, solid, used MICROMETER HEAD.
I do not know exactly how old this Antique Tool - MICROMETER HEAD is, or where all it has been, or things it has seen and/or done, but I'm sure it has been plenty.
I am no expert, I do not even know exactly how MICROMETERS work, but though it is older and used, it appears to be in well cared for, very good condition and moves quite easily/smoothly. It could use a little cleaning. It appears that, in the right hands, it would work quite smoothly and accurately and/or know what it is suppose to be doing. A great addition to anyone's collection - perhaps yours.
