I am selling my 1949 8n Ford tractor (block number 150533). It does have a 4 speed transmission plus the Sherman and the heavy duty 2n rear end. Great running tractor - starts easy. There have been many upgrades done to this 8n. Below is a list of new and replaced parts, all the work has been done within the past year.
Replaced front seal new brakes new pto shaft (1 3/8 ) new inner oil seals on both axles new clutch, pressure plate and throw bearing steering wheel new key switch new exhaust manifold new exhaust pipe muffler new water pump new radiator and fan gas and choke lines have been replaced rebuilt carb upgraded to 12 volt system with new battery new wiring harness new 12 volt starter new solenoid new ring gear installed on flywheel plug in block heater (works great in extreme cold) electric fuel shutoff extra heavy duty front bumper new lights brand new front rubber very good rear rubber upgraded naa lift cylinder new cam follower pin rebuilt 8n hydraulic pump new spark plugs sump cleaned out and all fluids have been changed custom tool box (my idea) check chains and more.
As mentioned it starts easy and runs good. Plowed snow all last winter (neighbors were real happy!) Great work tractor, not pristine or showroom condition. A trouble free worker.
The only thing that needs checked out is that the tractor is underpowered in 4th gear in my opinion. I have narrowed this down to a timing and/or carb adjustment issue, some backfiring at higher rpm s. It may need a new set of points.
This tractor DOES have the Sherman Step Up transmission. Giving you 8 forward and two reverse speeds.
It also has an ORC (over run clutch).
Look closely at the steering box, it is the later oval box that is adjustable (much better) than the first ones. I have filled it with corn head grease. Very tight steering. No backlash.
The reason I am selling it is because I ve upgraded to a larger tractor. The wife said that this is not a two tractor family!! She actually said a little more than that but I will choose not to print the exact statement . =)
Come out and take a look at the tractor if you want to. Trailer and implements seen in pics are not available at this time.
