Custom lighted display cabinet w/storage in base & rear
Custom Lighted Display Cabinet w/Storage in Base & Rear
#1 - Front view of cabinet (glass doors and glass shelving not installed).
Here is a used, lighted, custom-designed and custom-built, glass-door'ed display cabinet that is intended to be used as part of a store's check-out counter set-up. It has a storage area in the base and another storage area in the rear with five (5) plywood shelves. The front contains two separate display areas, behind sliding glass doors, each with five (5) glass shelves. This versatile cabinet is perfect for your boutique or specialty shop!
This cabinet does require some relatively simple cosmetic repair work, as described later and as shown in the photographs.
* Had been in use in my now-closed retail gift shop.
* Can stand alone, if desired, but was designed to be part of my checkout area.
* This cabinet was NOT intended to be placed against a wall.
* The rear storage area is accessed via a bi-fold door, and was used to store gift wrapping supplies (ribbon spools and bows), and other various and sundry items needed at my checkout counter.
* Is quite heavy (even without the glass shelves or doors in place).
* There are some coat hooks, and other smaller hooks, on the cabinet surfaces (see photographs). They can be used to hang small merchandise items on, and to assist in checking out merchandise that is sold on clothing hangers.
* I acquired this cabinet in bare wood. I primed and painted it white, as shown in the photographs.
* I used a quality, name-brand primer and paint - if you want this information, please request such, using the Contact Seller link.
* Due to the special nature of this cabinet, the back surfaces of the cabinet, as well as the rear storage area and shelving, ARE primed/painted white.
* The inside surfaces of the storage base are NOT painted.
* There is a strip of wood along the bottom edge of the sliding glass doors. It is held in place by nails, but is removable to allow for the installation and removal of the sliding glass doors.
Original repair made that now requires some cosmetic work:
* This condition was not recognized until AFTER I had painted the unit and went to install the glass shelving.
* The craftsman corrected the situation, but in doing so, introduced some cracks in the plywood.
* The overall structural integrity of the cabinet has not been negatively affected, but it does require some cosmetic repair work to make it look its best.
* I had started to make the cosmetic repairs, but never finished them.
* Since the cabinet is now in a storage facility, I am unable to perform such work on it.
* Basically, the areas that I applied wood filler to need to be sanded and touched up with paint (see photograph #7).
* Similarly, there is an area of cracking along the edge of the center piece of plywood, which separates the left- and right-hand display areas from each other, which should be filled, sanded, and painted (see photographs #8 - #12).
* The cosmetic repairs needed are of such nature that anyone with some basic skills should be able to successfully complete them.
* However, if the cabinet is purchased by someone in the local area, and the purchaser wishes assistance with this task, I would be more than happy to do so.
Lighted and partially lockable:
* I installed one short fluorescent lighting fixture in the left-hand, half-depth display area, and two such fixtures in the right-hand, full-depth display area, to provide product lighting.
* There is a ratchet-style lock for the sliding glass doors.
* At the time that I ordered this cabinet, I did not have enough remaining cam locks to install on both of the storage base doors (I only had one left). Therefore, these doors do not lock, but cam locks could be installed if you wanted to do so.
* The rear bi-fold door does not lock, nor was it intended to (getting a bi-fold door to "lock" would basically require some type of removable metal bar to be secured across it, to keep both halves from being folded open).
* Facing the front of the cabinet, the left-hand display area is one-half of the width and a little less than one-half of the depth of the cabinet.
* This area of the cabinet has five (5) glass shelves, which can be positioned as desired along metal shelf tracking.
* Facing the front of the cabinet, the right-hand display area is one-half of the width and fully the depth of the cabinet.
* This area of the cabinet also has five (5) glass shelves, which can be positioned as desired along metal shelf tracking.
* Facing the rear of the cabinet, the right-hand storage area is one-half of the width and about one-half of the depth of the cabinet.
* This area of the cabinet has five (5) plywood shelves, which can be installed as desired on any of the fixed-position wooden shelf supports.
* The craftsman had created slots for metal tracking in this area, but they are not useable (two such slots are visible in photograph #16).
* My total delivered cost for this cabinet, in late 2006, was $783.41.
* I have listed this display cabinet at a bit less than half of that cost.
* Moreover, I will consider reasonable offers for the cabinet.
This display cabinet is in generally good condition, but does require cosmetic repair work, as described above.
* I closed my retail store in 2007, and put this cabinet into storage.
* This cabinet was covered with moving blankets, at that time, so it has stayed relatively clean.
* I returned the moving blankets to the mover, after selling most of my other display cabinets in March 2010. This cabinet is now covered with plastic lined table cloths, to continue to keep it clean.
* The storage facility is in an old factory building. As such, there had been some mouse activity in the original storage unit (the cabinet is now in a smaller storage unit).
* From what I can see, they left this cabinet alone for the most part (they were more interested in a few of the moving blankets).
* However, if you purchase this cabinet, I would suggest that you clean it, prior to use (just makes sense, anyway, since it has been in storage).
* Are you a bit handy, and don't mind getting your hands dirty?
* The cabinet is white, so you could give it a fresh coat of paint, in any color you want, to match your store's decor.
* The glass shelving and glass doors are wrapped with padding and cardboard.
* One of the tempered glass doors has a small sliver of glass chipped out of its top edge. This chipped area is mostly hidden (unless you look for it) when the door is installed in its sliding track, and does not affect the operation of the door.
* Some edge surfaces of the glass shelves are "wavy" in places (i.e., not ground perfectly smooth). This is the way they were provided.
* There are some marks, etc., on the cabinet, from use, from the products that were on display, from moving/storage, etc., as would be expected.
* The rear fluorescent lighting fixture, in the full-depth display area, has a crack in the plastic cover (see photograph #13).
Most of the pictures in this listing are of the cabinet as it now looks in storage, with all or the glass and all of the plywood shelving removed.
There are three pictures that show small portions of the cabinet, as it appeared when in use in my retail gift shop (I never took an overall picture of this cabinet, when installed). They will help to give you some idea of what the cabinet looked like "in action."
Along with the photos' caption information, please note the following:
* If you supersize the pictures, you will be able to see the details more clearly.
* Please note that the other cabinets and items that are visible in photographs #17, #18, and #19 are NOT being offered for sale in this listing.
* This listing is for the cabinet, ONLY - none of the giftware, etc., as shown in the pictures, is included.
Approximate dimensions are as follows:
* Depth: About 20" overall, plus about 7/8" for the thickness of the base storage area's doors.
* Left-hand, Half-depth Display Area:
* Overall interior height: About 58-1/2""
* Interior height to bottom of lighting fixture: About 57-1/2"
* Interior width: About 18-7/8"
* Interior depth: About 7"
* Intend from front edge: About 2"
* Right-hand, Full-depth Display Area:
* Interior depth: About 16-1/2"
* Half-depth Rear Storage Area:
* Interior depth: About 9"
* Interior height: About 16"
* Interior width: About 38-1/2"
* Interior depth: About 18-1/2"
* Storage base doors: About 18" wide x 15" high x 7/8" thick at the frames (each). Openings are a bit smaller.
* I did not unpack the glass doors during the preparation for this listing, so I do not have measurements for them.
* The two doors fit into, and slide within, metal tracks. When installed, and in the closed position, the doors overlap each other a bit, at the center.
Well, there you have it - a used, lighted, custom-designed and custom-built, glass-door'ed display cabinet, with two display areas and two storage areas.
Due to the heavy/bulky nature of this cabinet, it is available for local pickup, only.
Please consider the following:
* The storage facility does have a loading dock, though it might not be at the level of a "normal" dock (it seems to be higher).
* Please arrive with a vehicle suitable to transport the cabinet that you purchase.
* I will assist you in loading the cabinet into your vehicle, if you desire, but please be prepared to do the loading, also.
* You should provide your own moving blankets, as the sheeting currently covering the cabinet is not sufficient to protect it during transit.
* The storage facility is open from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM Monday through Saturday.
* Wheeled dollies are usually available at the storage facility, but you may wish to bring your own.
