This breed, which originated in western France in the town of Marans, is best known for its dark chocolate colored eggs. It is a fast grower, dual meat and egg bird and stands confinement well.. They are also excellent when allowed to free range as they do not cause the damage to your garden that some breeds do through heavy scratching.
The original French birds have feathered legs as do ours..... The Blue Splash Marans are a fairly new variety to the United States....
