1938 minneapolis - moline z standard (zts) tractor

1938 Minneapolis - Moline ZTS #610348
This is a rare early standard tread Z tractor.
I'm not for sure if I've got the timing quite right or the carb set perfect. Sometimes its a little stubborn about starting and sometimes it fires right off on the second or third crank. Sounds good once its warms itself up. It actually runs its best while under load. While climbing the hills in road gear, the tractor sounded great- purred like a kitten.
I assume the previous owner is the one who restored it - I'd say probably in the early to mid 1990's. It appears he was trying to be as historically correct as possible. It has several new, rebuilt, NOS, or well preserved orginal parts on it. The paint is flaking off the engine and transmission here and there but overall, it has very attractive apperance and is still very "parade worthy."
It has 3 flat lens head lights. I think the gauges are orginal. Sheet metal is in exceptional condition; There are no welds tears or rust through anywhere. Even the battery box is nice and solid. The grill especially is near flawless, it still has the orginal emblem on it. This tractor really looks near brand new, either it was extraordinarly well cared for it's whole life or someone did a extensive amount of work on the sheet metal.
It has a reproduction orginal style muffler.
Looks like the radiator was rebuilt.
The brakes are weak. They either need adjusting and/or maybe the shoes replaced.
The front tires are brand new. The rears are very old but are in great shape; They have a unusual tread pattern that I was told have not been made since the 50's, They are Firestones. The rims themselves must have been put on new when the tractor was restored because they are perfectly solid. The wheels are the early heavy cast type and have "MM" and "JT" stamped on them.
It has no belt pully but is equipped with a P.T.O and it works as it should.
I have no idea if the generator works. When I bought it, it didn't have a belt on it. I've just been using the hand crank to start it. I would think, if anything, that the voltage regulator is probably no good after all this time. The wiring harness appears to be orginal but looks in fair shape yet.
It easly goes in all gears and stays in gear. The clutch works good, especially in road gear, you can just "feather" it in, smooth and easy.
The front end seens nice and tight, steers and handles easy.
I do have old carb for it which Im including in this sale. There may be nothing wrong it. I just slapped a new one on because I got a good deal on it and I wanted to eliminated as many causes of pontential grief as possible when I was trying to get it started or the 1st time.
This tractor has alot of potential. Its a beautiful machine. A little more TLC and tinkering and someone will have a nice example of a early "vision-lined" Minney-Mo.
Tractor is located about 1 hour west of Albany , NY.
