New portrait of native americans - 2008 wall calendar -

At the turn of the twentieth century, Seattle photographer Edward S. Curtis (1868 1952) accepted the prevailing notion of Native Americans as a vanishing race and decided to record their legends, languages, traditions, and music for posterity. In a thirty-year project, he took more than forty thousand photographs, interviewed and recorded tribe members, and accumulated heavy personal debt. The effort resulted in his landmark twenty-volume work, The North American Indian. This calendar reproduces twelve first-generation photo prints from Curtis mammoth project, accompanied by cultural information and notes on relevant tribal history.
